Grandpa Rick Visits!

Here is Ginny and her mom, with Alex.

Here is Grandpa Rick and Alex (feeding time).

Alex is growing steadily. He didn't gain any weight in the first week home, which had the doctor a bit concerned, so we upped the amount that we are feeding him...and wow, that worked! He was 7 lbs 6 oz on Friday, and we expect him to be back up to birth weight at the next dr's appt. Alex went out this week to a mommy and me meeting for Jewish "mommies", and today went out to his first breakfast at 43rd St deli...he slept the entire time!

Going visiting . . .

We visited my workplace today to show Alex off and grab my new laptop ;-). Everyone thought he was very cute!

He seems much more alert today, here's a picture of him in his swing:

Here's one with his "Eema" (means "mother" in hebrew, what we're calling Ginny's mom's Grandma name):

Our friends Julee and Gordon Schoenfeld delivered their 2nd child today, and we stopped by the hospital and visited with little Connor (sp?) this morning. Ginny held him for a while:

and later he did a "Pirate" impression for us -

The days are full . . .

Phew, there never seems to be enough time to do everything! Ginny's Mother Ronna has been visiting and spending time with Alex. And we had a bad windstorm last weekend that took out a small tree in our front yard (fortunately with no damage) that I've still got to take care of.

Alex made his first doctors appt and got a clean bill of health. He's eating well, and tonight he sat and squirmed around and was more aware without being upset then we've seen him so far (mostly he's either been fussing, eating or sleeping.

Anyway, here's a picture of Alex on the way to the doctor's:

Sort of ridin' with his homey's crossed with the Godfather hand gesture.

Speaking of inappropriate hand gestures, this pic was *not* posed:

Not good for a Jewish kid ;-).

Anyway, time for some much needed sleep, g'night! zzzzzzzzzz!

Alex's Birth Video (attempt 1)

So here's the video! I edited it down to 5 minutes so it isn't quite as bad as those vacation slides the neighbors force you to sit through ;-). For some reason the audio didn't make it through the Youtube upload, I will try again later with a different audio codec to see if that doesn't work better (though I used youtube's recommended settings, go figure!? Any pointers from youtube users?).

Photos by request

My mother asked for a couple close up face shots of Alex:

Here's some pictures of the nursery. The crib's still mainly for decoration until he's too big for the bassinet.

If you look carefully in the last pic, you can see poor Shadow in the doorway. He's been really good, but he *really* doesn't like it when Alex cries. Hopefully he'll get used to that.

All settled in for a rest

Yay, finally home!

Ahh, it's nice to be home! Alex is passed out after his first meal at home, and we're trying to tidy up a bit (we left in a hurry, Ginny hadn't even emptied her bath!) before trying to grab a nap. Our friend Sandy will likely bring Shadow back over tonight (poor guy has no idea what's going on!). Here's a few pictures of the trip home.

Packed up and ready to go!

In the car, all bundled up.

At home, napping after a good meal.

Quest for sleep, opening comments up.

Ginny didn't realize that the comments were restricted to people with gmail accounts, so I opened them up to everybody.

Things are still good, trying to get a couple of hours of sleep. Finally managed to get Internet in the room (dial-up only though!). Obviously that is driving us nuts!

Rent-a-baby

So here are some pictures of *other* people "borrowing" Alex ;-).

Here's David, Ginny's brother taking his turn -

David's girlfriend Tanya. We had to pry him away after a while ;-).

Lisa and Jenny (below), friends of ours from Ginny's work came to visit:

Here is "Grandpa Joe":

And my "Grandma Kristine" taking a turn -

More Pics

I'm still working on the interface on this thing, Ginny set it up in the first place. Here are some more good pics. He has *lots* of black hair (unlike me!).

Elijah Alexander has arrived! (post by Randy)

Well, so much for the *expected* due date!

Elijah Alexander ("Alex" to his friends ;-) ) was born at 11:59 am on Thursday, April 12 at North Florida Womens Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. He was 7 lb, 10 oz at birth and 20" long, and came out screaming his lungs. He is healthy in every way. We will be in the hospital until Saturday morning (I'm home for an hour to grab some things and create this post). Visitors are fine if you give us some notice first!

I'm attaching the pictures we've taken so far, and I'll see if I can figure out how to post some video that we got. These are the first pictures after his birth!

Getting close!

Today is my last day of work (so weird)...and then I will hopefully have a few days to actually get some stuff done around the house before Alex makes his grand entrance. There is not much left to do, but it will be nice to come home from the hospital to a clean house (hopefully), laundry done, beds made, etc. I can also get my massage therapy appointments any time during the days next week, and don't have to stress about finding parking once I get to work!
